CONCERT: ANVIL LIVE IN TAIPEI
Date:July 1 (Sun)
Time:8pm
Location:Legacy (@Huashan)
Ticket:NT 1200

The Urban Nomad Film Fest will present one of the most rocking documentaries of all time, ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL on July 1, with a Q&A with band members from the documentary. These two screenings comes right before the heavy metal band Anvil plays its first ever concert in Taiwan as part of the Célébration Canada, a celebration of Canada's national day, at the Huashan 1914 Creative Park on July 1 at 8pm. So get ready to rock out with your cock out! Coz they sure as hell don't make bands like Anvil anymore!

Keep reading for more info on the film, the band and the upcoming events.

In the 80s, Anvil was one of the hardest rocking bands anywhere, touring the world with Bon Jovi, the Scorpions and Whitesnake. The group's 1982 album Metal on Metal influenced the giants of metal that followed in the 90s, including Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax. By the 2000s, singer/guitar Steve "Lips" Kudlow are nobodies, working menial jobs, still living in their home town of Toronto, and playing occasional gigs for a couple dozen people in a local bar. Then came the 2008 documentary, ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL, which won awards at festivals all around the world and got amazing critical reviews. Anvil has a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Anthony Lane of The New Yorker called the film "the most stirring release of the year...all that we can ask out of a movie." The film was a real life Spinal Tap, made all the more touching because it was in fact a completely true story. It tells the story of two friends, who at the age of 14, made a pack to rock together forever. And they meant it. The film shows the band's shot at fame, their fall into obscurity, and a tragicomic European tour put together by an Italian superfan who contacted them through a random email. At its core, ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL is a timeless tale of survival and the passion it takes to follow your dream, year after year. As observed by Sundance Film Festival director John Cooper, "Anvil rocks - it has no other choice."

The Urban Nomad Film Fest presents these film screenings in cooperation with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan and Cineplex (聯影電影). Anvil will perform live at Legacy on July 1 at 8pm, with ticket prices and location to be announced. Film tickets for both screenings are NT$200 at the door or can be purchased in advance through iNDIEVOX.com. 100 free film tickets will be available to concert ticket holders on a first come first serve basis. You can get these free movie tickets from 1pm on July 1 at the screening venue.

The screening venue and the concert venue are both located on Huashan's main promenade, with entrances about 50 meters apart.
